The Kenton County Public Library will host the Kentucky History and Genealogy Conference in 2025. The event is scheduled for Friday, August 8 and Saturday, August 9 at the Erlanger Branch, with pre-conference activities on Thursday, August 7 at the Covington Branch. The conference is free to attend but requires registration.
The two-day conference will bring together historians, genealogists, researchers, authors, and heritage organizations from across the region. There will be more than 20 sessions covering a range of topics related to Kentucky's history and genealogy.
Dave Schroeder, Executive Director of the Kenton County Public Library, will deliver the keynote address titled "Where Goetta Meets Grits: Defining Northern Kentucky." Other highlights include breakout sessions on newspaper research, lineage societies, archives, microfilm usage, German heritage in Kentucky, Black cemeteries, slave registers from Kentucky's past, yearbooks as historical resources, and linguistic traditions in the state.
On Thursday’s pre-conference day at Covington Branch there will be a historic Northern Kentucky bus tour and an open house focused on local history and genealogy with guided tours and research opportunities.
Saturday’s schedule begins with an opening session by Travis Horn about Kentucky Land Patents. Throughout both days attendees can visit a vendor hall featuring over 25 local historical societies and organizations such as the African American Genealogy Group of Kentucky; county historical societies from Kenton, Boone, Pendleton & Campbell; Roebling Books & Coffee; Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War; DAR; several authors including Terry Foody and Dann Woellert; as well as representatives from state institutions like the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives and the Kentucky Historical Society.
