The Kenton County Public Library Foundation reflected on its achievements in 2024, marking a year of progress and community engagement. Emily Wherle, Director of Communications and PR at St. Elizabeth Healthcare and a board member of the Foundation, highlighted several key accomplishments.

In an effort to promote childhood literacy, the Foundation distributed over 2,200 books to kindergartners across public and private schools in the county last fall. Additionally, they partnered with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to offer free books to children up to age five, delivered monthly to their homes.

The Foundation also recognized local educator Shawna Harney with the Mary Ann Mongan Literacy Award. Harney, Chief Academic Officer with the Kenton County School District, was honored for her contributions in safety, literacy, and staff development during her 27-year career. The award presentation took place at River Ridge Elementary in November.

Financial support was extended towards a new library branch in Latonia. The upcoming facility will include various amenities such as a large meeting room, study rooms, and areas designated for children, teens, and adults.

Wherle emphasized that "libraries are more than just a place for reading; they can help connect and empower communities." Since its inception in 2001, the Foundation has aimed to enhance library programs beyond what is funded by government sources.

Wherle encouraged continued support for the Foundation's initiatives: "If you've benefited from the resources and programs at the library... consider making a donation."
