Kenton County Library seeks photograph donations for historical preservation

Kenton County Public Library | Official Website

The Kenton County Public Library is inviting the public to donate their collections of photographs, whether physical or digital, to help preserve family and local history. The library accepts various formats including color and black & white photographs, film negatives, slides, and postcards.

Donating these items contributes to the preservation of both local and familial histories. The library is interested in photographs that capture area families, schools, buildings, businesses, events, and other community-related subjects.

Physical donations are preserved using archival materials before being securely stored in the library's archives. Each image is digitized and indexed for easy searching within the Faces and Places database. This resource currently hosts around 130,000 images and is freely accessible to the public.

For those interested in digitizing their own photographs, the Covington branch offers scanning equipment free of charge. Users can save digital copies on memory cards or flash drives for sharing via social media or genealogy websites.

Questions about donations or accessing resources can be directed to 859.962.4070 or history@kentonlibrary.org.

This initiative was highlighted by Charles Halbrook from the Local History and Genealogy Department at the Covington Branch.
