The Kenton County Public Library is inviting readers of all ages to join the 2025 Summer Reading Quest: Heroes, Myths & Legends. The program will take place from June 1 to July 31 and aims to promote reading, creativity, and discovery through various themed events, interactive activities, and prizes.
Participants can keep track of their daily reading using either a paper log available at library locations or the Beanstack app. There are no restrictions on what or how long participants should read; the focus is on establishing a daily reading habit. Prizes will be awarded as milestones are reached, although availability may be limited.
For young readers aged 0–12, prizes include vinyl stickers after five days of reading, a free book after ten days, and a T-shirt or canvas tote after fifteen days. Continued participation offers chances to win from a prize machine and entries into a drawing for $50 Visa gift cards.
Adults and teens aged 13 and above receive an insulated water bottle or canvas tote after fifteen days of reading. They also have opportunities to earn entries into drawings for $100 Visa gift card grand prizes by continuing their reading.
Dave Schroeder, executive director of the library, stated: “The Kenton County Public Library has offered a Summer Reading Program since 1931. When children continue reading over the summer, they are more likely to retain skills and avoid learning loss. And when adults read, they set a powerful example showing young readers that reading is a lifelong habit worth following.”
Kickoff events will mark the start of the Summer Reading Quest:
- At Erlanger Branch on Friday, May 30 from 5–7 p.m., attendees can engage in challenges with mythical themes while enjoying pizza.
- Independence Branch will host medieval-themed activities including archery and swordplay on Saturday, May 31 from 12–2:30 p.m., with Chameleon Ice Snoballs available.
- Covington Branch will offer Renaissance Faire entertainment on Saturday, May 31 from 6–8 p.m., featuring local vendors and royal entertainment.
The celebration receives support from Friends of the Kenton County Public Library among other local sponsors such as Snappy Tomato Pizza and Chick-fil-A Fort Wright.
