Richard Walter Haupt, 95, of Kenton Hills, passed away on January 25, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare. He was born on July 27, 1929, in Ludlow, Kentucky, and his life was marked by a profound commitment to the preservation of history and heritage.

Richard served as the Director of the Cincinnati Historical Society from 1966 to 1972, followed by his role as Vice President for Education at the National Trust for Historic Preservation in Washington, D.C. His work emphasized the importance of historical education and the significance of conserving cultural heritage. Richard’s generosity and welcoming nature left a lasting impact on those he encountered, inspiring a shared love for history and the arts.

Beside his professional pursuits, Richard was a devoted historian and an enthusiastic collector of antiques. His passion for the past was evident in his dedication to learning and preserving stories and objects that held historical significance.

Survived by his cherished wife, Joyce Haupt, and his nephew and nieces, Eric, Julie, and Leslie Haupt, Richard will be fondly remembered by those closest to him. His memory lives on through the lives he touched and the knowledge he imparted.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Conrad "Bud" Haupt, parents Reverend Walter H. Haupt and Lucille Richards Haupt, who held a special place in his heart.

A private service will be held for the family, with inurnment at New St. Joseph Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
